OMG I love those Tartans!
Hi Patricia -
Glad you like 'em - I hope the guys have a similar reaction to them!
I was particularly taken with "Cambo's", because there's a sorta neat story behind that one...
The tartan is ACTUALLY named "The Pride of New Zealand", and to paraphrase the background of it - the black is to represent the "All Blacks" rugby team, the grey is to represent the cultural diversity of the peoples of New Zealand (the Maori tribes and all of the Europeans that have moved there), and the white is for the snow-capped mountains...
Add in the Cambo logo in place of the "O", and I think it's pretty cool - I hope "Cambo" himself concurs...we got to meet him the last time he played the event, and he had a brand new pair of Nike's that were tearing up his feet - my wife ran back to the parking lot to get him a moleskin out of his car...he's a super nice guy....
While we're discussing the design backgrounds - the Harrington tartan is developed from the County Dublin tartan where Padraig grew up, the DiMarco tartan is actually taken from a Universal tartan for Italian-Americans, and Davis Love's is taken from the MacKinnonn tartan, of which Love is a "sept" or branch of the main clan...I liked the color schemes of each, and their relevance to each of the players....
